Did you know that 41% of the Shelter's adoptable animal population in 2017 came from overcrowded, high kill shelters?
But what does that mean exactly?
It means that thanks to the generosity and support of the community, the Shelter was able to save an additional 382 lives. 382 pets got a second chance at love and life, and 382 families got to experience the joy of adoption!
In addition to helping the individual animals that were transferred in, our Regional Outreach program also serves to foster communication and networking between Idaho's shelters and rescues. In 2017 we formally organized a coalition of Idaho shelters in order to share resources, educate shelter employees statewide about humane animal sheltering, and to reduce the number of adoptable animals euthanized in our state.
Predominantly we work with regional shelters in Idaho who are in need of a relief valve - somewhere to send adoptable pets they simply don't have space for. However, on special occasions we work with shelters and rescues that are out of state. Recently, we've worked with folks from Louisiana, Texas, California, & New Mexico! Not only does this give these animals a second lease on life, it also gives our adopters more highly adoptable pets to choose from!
