Carving for Critters 2017
Saturday, March 4th
Bald Mountain Ski Rally
Start Time: 10:30am – Lift Close
Carving for Critters invites you to join in the fun of this unique down hill ski rally on the slopes of beautiful Bald Mountain in Sun Valley, ID. A benefit for the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, Carving for Critters is a family friendly, all ages, all abilities event designed to reward strategy over speed.
Using a “shot gun” style start, participants begin the rally at River Run or Warm Springs Lodge. Thanks to the tech folks at Orbiter Timing Systems, Checkpoints (Sparky Penguin) will electronically read and log your time as you ski or ride by each rally point. Don’t go too fast, though, because you’ll gain penalty points. Once everyone has finished the rally the Carving for Critters organizers will take the three teams/individuals in the middle of the field (the median times). This event isn’t about flying down the mountain as fast as possible – it’s trying to find the average time based on what other teams are doing.
Where will you begin? Which route will you take to pass all nine check points? Will you get caught up in lift lines? How much fun will you have?
The top 3 individuals and top 2 teams with times closest to the predetermined optimal rally time WIN! Great prizes include a signed, numbered Leroy Nieman serigraph “Lady Skier”. Since this is a fundraiser, the individual and team raising the most money for the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley will receive a great prize as well as a HUGE thank you (if you’d like to create a fundraiser for this event, click here)! Award ceremony at Apple’s Bar & Grill (4:00pm).
